Mission & Values

Hawaii Sheep and Goat Association

The Hawaii Sheep and Goat Association is dedicated to strengthening Hawaii’s sheep and goat community through education, advocacy, and sustainable practices. Our core values include promoting responsible animal husbandry, environmental stewardship, regenerative agriculture, and building a supportive network of farmers, homesteaders, and enthusiasts across the islands.

Raia Olsen

Raia Olsan is a mother of 4 who owns and operates O'ahu Grazers, LLC, along with her husband, Daniel Olsen. She raises large flocks of hair sheep scattered across the island of O’ahu. She uses her sheep to manage the vegetation on multiple solar sites and has begun brush management by grazing with sheep and goats in fire-prone communities.

Erika Catanese

Erika Catanese is practicing agroecology and rescue, serving people, animals, and the place through regenerative practices. She also teaches botany, ecology, and environmental science.

Thema Black

Since 2009, Thema has managed purebred and crossbred Dorper sheep in Kona and Waimea.

In the 70 and 90's, she and her family operated a sheep ranch in Oregon, where she showed and sold registered Suffolks. She is a volunteer staff member at YWAM Kona.
